Introduction

West Nusa Tenggara province is located between 115`45° until 119`10° east longitude and 8`5° until 9`5° south latitude. Regions in the north is bordered by Java sea, in the southern is Indian ocean, in the east with Sepadan strait, and in the west with Lombok strait. The whole area is 49,320 km² which consists of land (20,153.07 km²) and sea (29,159.04 km²). Two large islands, namely Lombok island has land area of 4,738.70 km² (23.51%) and Sumbawa island has 15,414.37 km² (76.49%). This province is also surrounded by hundreds of smaller islands. Small islands are Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan, Gili Gede, Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong, Moyo, Bungin, Satonda, Kaung, and Panjang island.

West Nusa Tenggara province has a very strategic position as it lies in the relationship across of Banda Aceh - Kupang, that is economically profitable enough. Lombok strait in the west, and Makassar strait in the north is the sea transportation routes to the strategic direction from Middle East for the traffic of fuel oil, and from Australia, it is passed by metal minerals route to Asia Pacific. This region is also a cross-trade to eastern Indonesia (Surabaya - Makassar). This province also lies in the across of famous tourist areas, namely Bali - Komodo - Tanah Toraja.

Administratively, this province's capital city is Mataram, and consists of 7 (seven) regencies and 2 (two) municipalities, that 4 (four) of regencies/municipalities are located in the Lombok island and 5 (five) of regencies/municipalities are located in the Sumbawa island. Regencies in this province are Bima, Dompu, West Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok, North Lombok, Sumbawa, and West Sumbawa. Meanwhile, two municipalities of this province are Mataram and Bima.
